A bathroom cleaning checklist splits the room into daily, weekly and monthly tasks. Daily: wipe the sink and hang the towels. Weekly: toilet, shower, mirror, counter and floor, in about 15 minutes. Monthly: grout, drains, the shower curtain and the area behind the toilet.
It is part of our cleaning schedule and checklist guide. For the other rooms, see the house cleaning checklist.
What goes on a bathroom cleaning checklist?
| How often | Task |
|---|---|
| Daily | Wipe toothpaste and splashes from the sink |
| Daily | Hang towels to dry, bath mat over the tub edge |
| Daily | Squeegee or wipe the shower walls after use |
| Weekly | Toilet: bowl, seat, lid, base and handle |
| Weekly | Shower or tub: walls, floor, fixtures |
| Weekly | Sink, faucet and counter |
| Weekly | Mirror |
| Weekly | Swap towels and bath mat |
| Weekly | Empty the trash |
| Weekly | Sweep or vacuum, then mop the floor |
| Monthly | Scrub grout and caulk lines |
| Monthly | Clear the shower and sink drains |
| Monthly | Wash or replace the shower curtain liner |
| Monthly | Wipe the exhaust fan cover, light fixture and door |
| Monthly | Clean behind the toilet and around its base |
| Monthly | Sort the cabinet and toss old products |
Follow the label on every cleaning product, and never mix products, especially bleach with ammonia or acids. Open a window or run the fan while you clean.

What is the correct order to clean a bathroom?
- Clear the counter and floor. Toiletries into a basket, rugs out.
- Spray toilet, sink and shower. Let the cleaner sit while you do the next step.
- Dust high spots. Fan cover, light, top of the mirror.
- Mirror and glass.
- Sink, faucet and counter.
- Shower or tub. Scrub, then rinse.
- Toilet. Outside first (handle, lid, seat, base), then the bowl.
- Floor. Vacuum or sweep, then mop toward the door.
Going from clean to dirty keeps toilet grime off the sink, and going top to bottom keeps dust off a floor you already mopped. Use a separate cloth or sponge for the toilet so it never touches the sink.
Example: the 15-minute weekly bathroom clean
| Minute | Task |
|---|---|
| 0 | Counter cleared, spray on toilet, sink and shower |
| 2 | Mirror wiped |
| 4 | Sink and counter wiped, items back |
| 6 | Shower walls and floor scrubbed, rinsed |
| 10 | Toilet outside, then bowl |
| 12 | Towels and mat swapped, trash out |
| 13 | Floor swept and mopped |
Minutes are our estimate for a bathroom cleaned weekly. On a busy week, do the 5-minute version: mirror, sink and toilet only.
How do you clean a really dirty bathroom?
If it has been a while, the weekly routine won’t be enough in one pass. Give the product more time and work in rounds.
- Ventilate. Open the window, turn on the fan.
- Remove everything. Toiletries, mats, towels, trash, shower caddy.
- Spray everything and leave it for the time on the label.
- Dust and wipe the high spots while it soaks.
- Scrub the shower with a stiff brush, rinse, and spray stubborn spots again.
- Toilet: outside, then under the rim and the bowl.
- Wash the mats and towels while you finish.
- Floor last, including the corners and behind the toilet.
Plan on about an hour for this (our estimate), more for heavy soap scum or hard water marks. After that, the 15-minute weekly clean keeps it there.
Quick clean vs. weekly clean vs. deep clean
| Compare | Quick clean | Weekly clean | Deep clean |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time (our estimate) | about 5 min | about 15 min | about 45-60 min |
| When | Guests on the way | Once a week | Monthly or when it’s bad |
| Tasks | Mirror, sink, toilet, towels | Full checklist | Grout, drains, fan, behind toilet |
| Goal | Looks clean | Is clean | Resets build-up |
How do you keep a shower clean longer?
- Squeegee after each shower. Water that dries on glass and tile leaves the spots.
- Leave the curtain spread out so it dries instead of staying bunched.
- Run the fan during and after showers.
- Keep fewer bottles in the shower. Less to move, fewer rings.
- Wipe the fixtures dry once a day if you have hard water.
If your brain stalls on cleaning
A bathroom is small, which makes it a good place to start on a hard day. A few changes help:
- Timer chunk. Set 5 minutes and do only the mirror and sink.
- First physical move. “Pick up the spray bottle.” Then spray the toilet. Now you have started.
- Body doubling. Someone on the phone while you clean counts.
- Visible list. Tape the weekly list inside the cabinet door.
- A “goes elsewhere” basket for anything that drifted in from other rooms.
- Lower the bar. A clean toilet and sink is a win.
The ADHD cleaning checklist splits every room into short steps like these. Our Cleaning planner (Google Sheets + Excel) puts the bathroom on one day of a short daily list that checks off as you go.
How does the bathroom fit your week?
On the weekly cleaning schedule, bathrooms get their own day (Tuesday). The monthly tasks rotate into the monthly cleaning schedule. If guests are coming and time is short, speed cleaning gets the guest bathroom done in five minutes.
Can’t make yourself start? Put “mirror”, “sink” and “toilet” on the task wheel and do whatever it lands on.
FAQ
How to clean a dirty bathroom fast?
Clear everything off the counter, spray the toilet, sink and shower, and let the cleaner sit for a few minutes. Then wipe from cleanest to dirtiest: mirror, sink, counter, shower, toilet, and the floor last.
How often should I clean my shower?
A quick wipe or squeegee after use helps, and a full scrub of walls, floor and fixtures once a week suits most bathrooms. Wash or replace the shower curtain liner and clear the drain about once a month.
How do hotels keep showers so clean?
Housekeeping cleans them after every guest, dries the surfaces so water spots don't form, and follows the same checklist each time. At home, a squeegee after each shower and a weekly scrub get you close.
What is the correct order to clean a room?
Clear clutter first, then work top to bottom and dry before wet: dust high spots, wipe mirrors and surfaces, clean fixtures, and do the floor last, moving toward the door. In a bathroom, go from the cleanest area to the dirtiest so the toilet comes last before the floor.
